"SUV tire" is a term that is used differently between different manufacturers.

Car tires all have a different priority between noise, traction, ride, mileage, looks, strength. Same with Truck tires.

SUV tires have the strength and size of truck tires, and some of the attributes of car tires, since an SUV is a truck being used usually as a car.

Ask the tire dealer to show you the different ratings for your priorities.

They have more plys in the side walls so its stiffer then a normal car tire so it can take the extra weight. Think of it as being pretty close to a performance radial. I put a set of SUV tires on my 72 Buick so it would handle better with out having to resort to new rims with shorter tires. Plus it kept my ride nice and suple.

True SUV tires are made for use in all situations an SUV is made for they have good gripping treads and are made with tougher sides that will take a lot of thumping as well as being able to be used safely with varying air pressures including low pressures in them.~~
