Violacein known as 'Black Beauty'

The blue-black pigment violacein, which is an indole derivative, was first described in literature in 1882.

It was then that a violet dye was isolated from a bacterium which is now known as Chromobacterium violaceum.

Since then, violacein could be isolated from the bacterial strains of Janthinobacterium lividum, Chromobacterium lividum and Pseudoalteromonas luteoviolacea.

A large number of coloring dyes are used in the textile, food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. During recent years, there has been a pronounced trend of consumers preferring products which contain natural pigments.

At present, yellow and red dyes are already being produced on an industrial scale from vegetable raw materials. However, in the afore-mentioned industrial branches, there still exists a large demand for natural blue and violet dyes.

The search for a dye from this spectrum has gained particular significance as a consequence of the legal prohibition against the use of the red-blue dye monascine in foods.

A microbiologically produced dye may thus help to close this gap and to open economically highly interesting pathways.

You may be thinking of a word relating to the genus of plants "Viola". The family name of these is "Violaceae" but the adjective form is "violaceous".
It looks the sort of word that might have the form "violacean" but this is not found except on some strange websites!

If the word is not 'violation' that has been wrongly spelt, I would say that it is descriptive of a person who is an 'ace' (expert') in (playing) violin. ('ace' appears within 'violin'.)
