The common little pet turtles with green shells and red 'ears' are 'Red-ear Sliders', not snappers (although they are often called such) and their bites do not hurt.

True snappers have big heads, and muddy-looking shells. A baby's bite is a mild pinch, and an adult's bite can chomp off some skin or bite a finger to the bone- but it is not as powerful as legend has it. (No bitten-through broomsticks, etc.)

Well if you are talking about the little green turtles in the pet shop then the bite hurts but it wont break skin. Once those little green turtles get up to a couple of pounds then they can break the skin, but you wont loose a finger.

Snapping turtles are not found in pet stores......only in the wild. And they can and will take off fingers or occasionally a hand. In many states the Alligator Snapping Turtle is a protected species.

Of course ! it hurts !
Snapper turtles are only for people who know how to care them, they are not good pets. They are very dangerous.

nope. in fact the bigger the snapping turtle, more pleasant the bite feels. some have reported orgasmic feelings while being bitten by the largest specimens.

I've seen one snap in two a tree limb that was over an inch thick.

Caught one on a fishing hook once.
