There was a time, well after the dinosaurs, when there were gigantic mammals that in some ways resembled dinosaurs. Indricothere (Indricotherium?) was a particularly large type; somewhat like a cross between a giraffe and a Brachiosaur. I think the statement meant that it was tall enough to look into the top of a chimney on a normal-sized house. Of course, when Indricotheres lived, there were no normal-sized houses with chimneys, so it's kind of a moot point. But if there had been, it could have!
