MY sister cant get on section 8 either..but There are government subsidized housing things you can get into. Go to HUD's website I think they have some info. But ther are many gov subsidized apartments in my city and help for poor families who dont qualify for welfare. IF yo ucant find any info call your mayors office or city county offices for help.

I hate to admit this, even to myself but we are in a position entirely too similar to yours. I am 31 weeks pregnant and on bedrest and I have two small boys (4 and 2). I was receiving long-term disability for epilepsy but they cut me off deciding that I can do some ludicrous job that they just made up. My husband was self-employed and we don't qualify for assistance either. We called the homeless shelter because we have to leave our apartment at the end of May, they told us that there is money for them to help people who don't qualify for assistance. We are on the waiting list for Section 8 (5 years in our area), apply even though it doesn't seem worth it. Call your homeless shelter, they may be able to help you avoid being homeless. I hope this helps (at least it is a place to start). Just to help you, being homeless is not reason enough for them to take your kids away (that worried me) but you are going to want a "if all else fails" plan like family or a shelter. Best wishes, I hope to see you on the other side of this (for both of us).

Well - whether pregnant or not - you and your children need to have a roof over your head. Start with family who can possibly let you stay with them until you get on your feet. Sell the bookstore and use that money to survive and get you both up and "running" again.

Go on Craigslist.com and places like that offering to do housework or childcare or something in exchange for a place to live. If you explain your situation, a lot of people will want to help you out. There are always people looking for nannies and that sort of thing.

try and find a homeless shelter. usually located downtown. or a womens shelter. churches are also a great place to get help. they may not be able to house you but will give you some options and let you know where you can stay. good luck!

Sell the book shop. In the meantime, talk to salvation army, your church, your family.
