Let's say we win the Iraq war and liberate the country! What's to prevent any terrorist from stricking American again?? After all the 9/11 attacks did not have anything to do with Iraq. It has to do with Al Queda and they are all over the middle east.

I don't disagree totally with your view...however I think it is very narrow minded.

Look at the bigger picture...there are problems in the Middle East that were lingering before Iraq...before 911. The Middle East needed drastic change. Iraq is the ground work for that change...The war in Iraq is buying us time... to get the nation fully prepared to deal with worst people. Success in Iraq and Afghanistan would cause a catalyst of change in the region...to include Iran... That is why the Iranian Regime has special interest in causing chaos in Iraq. They don't want Iraq to be powerful and have influence in changing the Iranian Regime. If Iraq was not adjacent to Iran...Iran would not see the threat as imminent.

People will argue that we created more terrorist in Iraq...So my question is...what did we do to cause 911?

Remember, Iraq was not about 911, it was about preventing another 911. It was about holding a nation accountable which the United Nations failed time and time again. (Oil for Food scandal and No Fly Zone etc)

There are Far-Left Americans who believe that we can unite with the rest of the world in peace.
It sounds nice and all...but that only works if the other side thinks the same way...

You see...With Radical Islam...its not about cooperation/It's not about getting along...Its about domination. They will use our weakness (PC) against us.

Make no mistake about it.. They have an agenda.

Bush said at the outset of the war on terrorism that terrorism can not be defeated as we define 'defeat' (like one country defeating another) but that it has to be brought to levels that are more workable to control.

It is being fought in that region (not just Iraq and not just Al Queda) because that area is a hot bed for terrorists, and governments that supply and fund terrorists. It is a centralizing point. It makes much more sense to localize and fight in the worst area instead of trying to spread our troops and equipment out all over the world to seek them out. Other countries have also had terrorist problems that they have dealt with (and are dealing with). Cells have been discovered all around the globe and dealt with (including 14 in Portland, Oregon.) Also people and organizations funding terrorists have been found and stopped. Iraq and Afganistan aren't the only places the problem of terrorism is being fought. It's the 'Center' of the war on terrorism-----and not a war with Iraq as some people keep refering to it. I really don't see why this concept is so hard for some to understand.

Also, did anyone else hear on the news tonight that some of the weapons going into Iraq from Iran now have chemicals in them?

Against the Iraq War but since we started it we need to finish it. Of course there is the possibility that with Saddam in power we would have eventually had to go to war at some point. Who knows? I just think the money could have been better spent in the USA on domestic energy development. Mind you, I'm not some idiot who is blindly anti-War or anti-military. Until everyone in the world ceases to be aggressive there will always be a need for a military. As long as countries compete for land and resources there will be war. People who campaign to end all wars or get rid of the military are living in a dreamworld.

Having served in Iraq a number of times under different duty positions, I know this... The population of Iraq has trippled since the start of the war. This is because it is the great holy war with the western world. Every mind washed muslim is traveling from afar to take part. So in reality, it is the front of the war on terrorism. Can we completly stop terrorism? NO. Terrorism is not an organized element such as a goverment or country that takes part in a fight. Terrorism is a way of fighting for a belief. As long as that belief still lives in one person, there will be bombs, and innocent people killed. If it were up to me, we would not try to win the war with more troops. Instead we would do it by psycholigical operations. Kind of like a D.A.R.E program. To keeps kids off terrorism!

But it was the American people's reaction to having terrorism on our soil that led us to the fight in Iraq. We wanted to kick somebodies butt after 9-11 and Bush gave us Iraq.

Terrorism happens all the time. Whether or not we went to Iraq isn't what has kept terrorism from our shores. It's what happened after the attacks such as having stricter guidlines for boarding airplanes and believe it or not Homeland security.

Well, lets say we already did liberate Iraq when Saddams statue fell. Ever since, we have been helping their newly formed govt to sustain itself and get a security force going.

What prevents future terrorist attacks? When we have less corrupt leaders like Saddam Hussein that sponsored suicide bombers in Israel. You have no idea how much death and suffering we have spared Israel by getting rid of him.

One by one America needs to get rid of state sponsors of terror so that places like Iraqs oil money dont go into making a bombs that end up in the coffee shop you go to, or the subway you ride, or bullets that their snipers shoot arent being dug out of your kids chest in an OR.

Iraq has nothing to do with 9-11. It has to do with more than just terrorism.

We've liberated Iraq from Saddam and now we're trying to liberate them from themselves. IF this is allowed to work, the region would see that we are there to help, not hurt and this could help make the terrorists views of us irrelevant.

That's absolutely true. People forget that even if we "win" in Iraq, there is no guarantee against a future terrorist attack. And even then, how do we know that we've won? How do you fight in another country's civil war? The logic in our military strategy is just not there. Unfortunately.

Nothing.

However, without Saddam, al Quida has lost a huge chunk of funding, training, and supplies, as have Hamas and Hezbollah. If we give up in Iraq now, either a new pro-al Quida government forms, or al Quida takes control of the country itself. Both terrible options.

When looking at the war on terror, people need to realize that it's more than just the 9/11 attacks. And they need to realize that everyone who helped al Quida, either with training, money or supplies, helped them accomplish 9/11.
And Iraq helped al Quida quite a bit.
