I have given her about an ounce of water since at this time I am carless and living on my own and cant get to the grocery store till morning. I have no one in the area to help me. Thats beyond the point. Anyway I hear that Prune juice or Pear juice works. Anything else that can help till I get to the store?
I called the ped and he says that having blood in a stool when there constipated is normal but I feel so bad for her she is straining all the time, crying, and today the only way she would sleep was in my arms curled up and it looked so sad. DO you think the water will help at all?
FYI: she was exclusively breastfed, I got a terrible sinus infection and had to go on antibotics, she had a severe allergic reaction and had to be put on Infamil Lipil only. Doc recommends I dont breastfeed till antibiotics are done. She was nice and regular untill now, now her poo is like brown and sometimes white and hard, poor baby I cant stand it.

If the blood is bright red then your baby probably just tore some skin in the anus when it was straining to poop and is not really anything to worry about. What you can do right now (later you should go to the doctor) is take some petro jelly or personal lubricant and lube up a thermometer to make a suppository of sorts. Make sure that everything is clean! If you have prune juice I don't think it would be a good idea to give a 1 month old baby any of it without asking your doctor 1st. Doesn't your doctor's office have an emergency number so that you can get ahold of the doctor on-call?
Oh, cool. Glad you got ahold of the doc. Don't give up on breastfeeding. I'm sorry that it had to be delayed. Make sure you're still pumping.

Had the same prob with my 13 week old daughter.

Don't stick anything in her bottom unless you are comfortable!

No more water today...too much could thin her blood & cause major problems.

Probably want to change formula...Enfamil-Nutramigen is good, all the ingredients are broken down for the baby...easier to digest. It is a lil more expensive (If you are on WIC- you will need a doctors note approving the Nutramigen so they will give it to you & it'll probably be 1 or 2 less canisters a month)

Prune juice (only the infant kind) is okay...but only in small amounts!

My grandmother from Mexico told me to try these tricks and they did help my daughter...
...you can try a drop or two of olive oil in her mouth...BUT only a drop or two.
...Also "Te de Manzanilla" which is Chammomille tea. (But only 100% natural). Brew a cup (sweetened with just a pinch of sugar) and give her about 2 ounces of it (let it cool off a bit-before giving it to baby).

I would think about getting a 2nd opinion from a different doctor. Blood in the stool means she may have ruptured a membrane in her rectum (not good)...and her poo should not be hard.

BEST OF LUCK!!!

Prune juice works very well, but only use a very little bit. Start with an ounce mixed in with a bottle of formula. The baby prune juice is the best for sensitive tummies. For now, I would try the 1st suggestion. If you still want to try water, you could add a very small amount of corn syrup if you have that. There's nothing wrong with giving baby water. The doctors are just concerned if you give them water they will not get enough formula. Only use a little bit so it doesn't fill her up and then she won't take her formula.

Blood means take baby to the emergency room even if it's nothing it is worth checking out right. You could never be to careful with your child. If you won't go just give the baby four ounces of water it will flush the babies system in about 8 hours. Since the baby has had only breast milk or formula this thin substance will go right through the little one. Good luck. Oh yeah if you are breast feeding try and remember what you ate. When breast feeding gassy foods are a big no no. Broccoli cauliflower deviled eggs are all typically culprits of baby not being able to poo or getting gassy.

You can buy a glycerin suppository at the store - they have them for babies, but if you have to buy the adult one, then cut it in half. You can insert that in her rectum to help her go. Prune juice in a very, very small amt. will also help. It could be the Enfamil Lipil that is making her constipated. You can try another type of formula, or even soy formula. During the time you're on antibiotics, be sure to pump your milk so you don't lose your supply, as your breastmilk will help her to become regular again once you can nurse.

I had this same problem with my son when he was about a week old. I was changing him from one formula to another, he got very very constapated; one bm a day or less. After about a week or two he started going regular again due to him getting used to the new formula. I had to use the suppositories for babies, gave him apple juice (and any other juices I could get my hands on to try and make him go). He now is 11 mo old and doing great.

Hi
I had a similar problem when I had to move my baby to formula due to my mastitis...well water is generally not recommended for such a young baby....check with the doc about changing her formula. My baby was on Lactogen & then I shifte her to Nan1. That helped. Also when you feel that she is straining even a little (you'll come to know when they clench their lips & go red) immediately lubricate her stool passage with a cotton wool dipped in refined castor oil. Also another good option is using infant glycerine suppositories. Its a small vial of glycerine. Just push it up her anus & hold her hips together for a minute or so. Glycerine makes the stoll soft...so that she wont have anal fissures & no injuries. All the best....I know how it feels when your baby strains & cries ith pain...
Luv

You need to have her seen by a doctor. white stools might mean a problem with digestive system.
Poo color changes with changes in formula and or nursing

Sometimes it helps to take a rectal thermometer and put some vasoilne on it and put it carefully in to the baby's rectum, not too deep. Sometimes that gets things started.
Giving her water is good.

I am not sure you can give a one month old juice . Ask your doctor

I was told to give 1 oz of water with 1/2 oz of apple juice...my baby is 3 months old and has struggled since birth. she's already been checked out by her pediatrician and a specialist. everything checked out ok, except that she just gets constipated. so her ped lets us result back to the apple juice and water....GOOD LUCK
