i used to have that problem, too. i just made sure that i did the following:
-don't have any snacks/drinks around (you'll be tempted to focus on those instead of your work)
-no TV, music, etc. should be on (again, you're gonna want to focus on those)
-have a quiet place to work (calms you down while leaving you with no sounds to distract you)
-work in a neat place! (it motivated me to keep my eyes on my work in front of me versus the mess around me!)
hope this helps. =]

There should be no distractions. No tv, radio, computer( unless you're using it for your homework), or food, and you should be in a quiet place. The more things going on around you and the more likely you'll be to start focusing on the other things and not your homework.

I like to do my homework somewhere where there are no distractions like the library. If you have your own room you can do your homework in there but DEFINATELY turn off the TV and computer because then you'll get nothing done.

I had an same situation. What you should do is skim examine so that you've an idea of what is going on. Then reread it. even if it truly is a textbook, search for bolded words. also, search for financial disaster overviews.

I can't concentrate in silence so I like to have music on (classical is good, even if it is not your cup of tea because it is mostly soothing and has no lyrics) or the tv on quietly but so I can't see it.

Do your homework the second you get home from school - that way your mind is still in "learning mode" and not in "play mode".
