1. They were nomadic. They followed the buffalo and the seasons.
2. They were democratic. All members of the tribe had equal say and influence.
3. They were hunter/gatherers. Their primary meat source was the buffalo, deer and elk. And they picked the seasonal berries, wild oats and apples.
4. The family was maternal in that the women headed the family structure.
