You stated the reason, he put up monster performances in the regular season. The MVP award is voted on before the playoffs even begin and is based on regular season performance only.
That being said however, I agree with you completely. He can't play well when under pressure. The last two regular season games against the Suns should have sealed the deal for Nash, but I guess people are reluctant to give it to Nash because he's already won it twice. Which is BS since that would be basing the award on his two previous seasons which is again what they are not supposed to do. But in giving it Dirk, they totally overlook his finals performance last year and all the other times he's choked. Sounds like a double standard to me.

Dirk doesn't deserve the MVP. In the playoffs he hasn't stepped up at all. He;s supposed to be the leader of his team, yet the Mavericks will be the first team ever to be a number one seed and lose to the number eight seed. If he was an MVP he would put up the numbers he is supposed to. They give him way to much credit. he's not as good as they say.

So far.... 1. Steve Nash: anyone who disagrees has gone mad. 2. Dirk Nowitzki: Carrying the load for the mavs every night 3. Joe Johnson: rallying the hawks past every team, not to mention best record in east. 4. Dwyane Wade: Guiding his team to wins and is vital in clutch situations. 5. LeBron James: Putting up the usual 28-7-7, and shooting a good percentage on the feild, keeping the cavs a threat. 6. Chris Bosh: Consistently putting up big numbers and double-doubles, with very little help. 7. Kobe Bryant: Leading the league in scoring and helping the lakers to repeat as champs. 8.Carmelo Anthony: Played better than anyone in the first 2 weeks, got knocked off a little but still puts up massive number 9. Dwight Howard: Grabbing boards, scoring on a high field goal percentage, blocking shots, winning games. 10. Brandon Roy: Proven he can carry a team. Scoring well. Can make Portland a powerhouse team in the west, with andre millers help.

Obviously he shouldn't be MVP. Real Mvp's make a big impact on the game. Not just shoot 3's from the outside. He's 7 foot for crying out loud at least get inside the paint and use that height!

good question! dirk is an mvp candidate because he is the star player of the team with the best record....
does he deserve it...
my answer is no.
nash is still my mvp. nash does a lot for his team and when you take him out of their line up they suck but take dirk out of dallas and they still with a handful of games.

I honestly don't think he does. I maybe biased because I am a DIE-HARD Warriors fan but as I've said in earlier posts, the MVP should be an effective leader for his team in addition to having excellent game. I've seen neither for Diwinksi. There's a lot of hype surrounding him but no substance--at least to me. As far as I'm concerned, he just an ordinary basketball player with high shooting averages--nothing "special" about him.
