I started growing my yard with grass seed last summer Only about 50% of the yard took with grass. Now it is coming to summer and I want a yard that looks full and green. What do I need to do to get the whole yard to take. Do I need to reapply dirt or top soil to the whole yard? Thanks

Take the areas that are bare and break up the soil, sow the seed and cover with top soil, then you need to keep the soil moist all the time. You don't want ot soak it in water, but keep the top soil moist, you can cover the seeded parts with straw to help hold in the moisture and keep birds away. Do it now before it gets too hot and makes it harder to keep the soil moist. Do not put down any week killer on the areas or the seed won't germinate. good luck

first aireate your soil with a tiller or pitchfork or strong metal rake. water so loose topsoil is wet but not a mud bath. sow seed and water again. try putting shreded newprint or straw on top to hold moisture. as soon as it starts to sprout put out a mild fertilizer and keep it watered. make sure not to put out too much fertilizer or it will burn the imature grass sprouts. good luck i recomend scott turf builder but only use half or less of what it recomends

Sometimes its hit and miss with the grass seeds, if you want to spend a little more $$$ but get immediate results, cut the dead patches out and lay sod instead.
