I went in and filled out an application at Dillard's today, i had a little mini interview and they hired me on the spot. I wanted to work in clothing or housewares but she said she wanted me to work in Men's Fragrances. I said ok but, I've been thinking and I'm kind of shy and don't know how well i would do having to seriously put myself out there in order to get customers. What do you think? It starts out paying $9.50.

I'm also going to have to meet a minimum of sales an hour say like $50-$100 dollars an hour which means i'll have to sell at least $400 everyday while i work even if we're slow. otherwise, i'll get fired.

She mentioned nothing about commission. She said she was going to start me out at $9.50 but then she was like you have to work for it! so....maybe that was a hint that it is commission even though she didn't mention it?

The job you have been offered is not a salaried or hourly wage job, it is commission sales. It is always worthwhile to find out if you have the capability for direct sales because there are many areas, such as real estate, that pay quite well if you can hack it. If you want a regular paycheck whether you sell successfully or not, look for something else.

9.50 an hour isn't bad. Give it a shot.
Every body is shy at first. be friendly, you'll be surprised how well it goes.

If the mgr doesn't offer help, ask her to spend a little time with you learning about men's fragrances.
The secret in sales isn't so much how much a customer buys the first time, but that they keep coming back. This willhelp you meet that goal!
Be friendly, be confident, SMILE-------you'll be fine. You want to do well. Don't forget, your manager wants you to do well also.
Good luckl.
No matter what happens, you gain experience. That is priceless.

If you're unemployed then take the job. Doesn't mean you still can't continue looking elsewhere. In the mean time you may find you're really good at it. Worse case scenario is you get a little experience and get to make some money in the process.
