You may be better off half-sitting on a chair. I say half-sitting because it will help you keep your balance, and also allow your diaphram its greatest capicity.

Stand with your legs apart, bend your knees just a little, and focus on something in the distance so you're looking at one thing. You can also go to the gym and ask for balance exercises, which should help a lot.

When you sing, ask for a stool with a good back on it to support you. You can
sit very casually and no one need know. But, please don't be embarrassed; there are a lot of us out there that have that problem. I use a cane because of
balance, arthritis and a number of other fun things. I use to love to sing, but my
throat is so bad now I can no longer do it. Sing your heart out!! Do it while you can and DON'T LET ANYTHING STOP YOU!!

Best not to stand flatfooted -

always have one foot 2-3 inches more forward of the other

and bend your knees - so that blood will flow = don't lock them
or else you are goin DOWN

balance yourself on the balls of your feet - to help build
dynamics in the rest of your body

and breathe thru your belly button(hehehe) not thru your upper chest - take deep breaths

rest your arms by your side - so as not to restrict your chest
movement

best of luck

Watch Mariah Carey and take notes. She's got two left feet, so she doesn't try to dance. She stands in one spot in all of her videos and performances. Well, she walks, but not much, from what I've seen.
