Worms and bacteria eat it to fuel their metabolism, generally creating soil as a biproduct. Worms provide a source of energy to birds and other higher up the food chain. Plants take up chemicals from the soil, forming chemicals with higher energy potential, by using energy provided by the sun's radiation. Such is the circle of life and the source of all energy on earth.

Interesting question, but I think the answer is that the energy gets carried on to other forms of life. Like, when an animal dies in the forest it either: a) provides nutrients for the soil as it decays, b) becomes food for maggots/worms/carnivorous animals, or c) both of those.

We as humans however disrupt that process. When we die, we typically have our bodies entombed in the ground in sealed caskets which are in big cement vaults. Or we get cremated and what's left of us turns into heat into the atmosphere as our bodies are baked in an oven.

Where the energy goes when we disrupt the decay process though, I don't know. It's pretty hard for anything to get into huge concrete vaults and caskets.

Some of the energy is given off as heat (if you're buried in a cold spot; otherwise, if you're in the desert, your body absorbs heat after you die). The rest of the energy--that which is contained in the chemical compounds that make up your body--is given off as bacteria and other soil organisms break down your body, using it as food for themselves. Sorry to be so gruesome!

sooooooooon after the person dies the cells in body do not die it takes hours to that and now as u asked its a gud question the remaining energy willll be utilized by the cells as the energy is exhausted eventually the cells willlllll die as there is no supply of energy any more

When u burn the body, the energy stored within in chemical form is released as heat. But,i feel, the body wont give all its energy out as heat without burning. When u bury it,most of ur chemical energy and ur metabolites r used up by the different microbes dat act on it.

The energy in your body is in the form of heat, which is transferred to the surrounding environment. Keeps the worms warm for a while.

It turns to heat -- i.e., it heats up the Earth (a very tiny bit).
