Open a history book and read it. The Constitution is the foundation upon which our entire system of government is built. It is important for many reasons the least of which is the Bill of Rights. The first 10 ammendments to the Constitution which codify rights that the government cannot take away from the citizens of this country. Of course that doesn't stop them from trying.

Constitution gives us some fundamental rights which we find
is being encroached upon by Executive,Parliament affecting our
liberty and without liberty we cannot live a meaningful life.
1] The Indian Constitution starts with" WE THE PEOPLE"
and the Parliament wants us to say"WE THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PEOPLE" Both are not
synonymous.
2]Parliament and the Executive wants to bypass the JUDICIARY
through acts in NINETH SCHEDULE.They do not want judicial scrutiny. This will endanger my personal freedom.
3]Freedom-freedom for citizens like you and me-can only
be secured through courts-not through parliament or through
executive governments. This Parliament is also ruled by a
coterie of 10% members and out of this only 1% RUNS THE
SHOW.
4]The Parliament is not functioning. For two successive years
an important measure like the annual finance bill has been
passed without debate or discussion in each House of
Parliament.
5]The concept of liberty is not the rule of law on which our
Constitution has been founded. It is a rule by law.If the
rule of law is 'rule by judges,the-rule-by-law is the law that
elected representatives make without any possibility of
questioning it by the Judicial Arm of the State.Otherwise
all these acts shall have to go through Judicial Scrutiny
so that our rights enshrined in the Constitution are protected.

P.S. Gujerat Govt admitted in Supreme Court that its
Anti-Terrorist squad had killed Sohrabuddin Sheikh in fake
encounter on 26 Nov 2005 [After one and a half year of the
incident].The Gujerat government today make another
shocking admission before the court that its police had also
killed Sheikh's wife,Kausar Bi, and burnt her body a few days later in what was a clear bid to cover up the chilling episode.

The Constitution is important because it lays down the basic framework of the government to be followed so that there will be no dictatorships and the provision for rights to be enjoyed so that people will have freedom to do what they want.

the question is moot. Our constitution has been declared
null and void by the current administration. I am not kidding.

Bush disregards the constitution whenever he wants. It is just a piece of paper and the last republican congress might as well have ripped it to shreds.

It's the building blocks of our nation. It guarantees us each liberties that other countries lack, and ensures that no one branch of the government can take control of the nation.
