Dont you think if we could, there wouldnt even be gay people at all because of what being gay looks like to society (in most cases)?

No one CHOOSES to be unaccepted. We choose to accept ourselves since we CANT change. My girlfriends family says prayer can change it LOL and that if you really want, you can make it go away over night. Are you kidding me?

your thoughts,,,,?

The people who believe that you can actually change your sexuality should try just "deciding" to be gay and see if they find the same sex attractive "overnight"... Unless they were Gay or Lesbian or Bisexual to begin with they will probably feel at least disinterested and at worst repulsed because it is not who they really are inside.

Before a person is even born there are changes that occur genetically and developmentally (in the womb) that determine how a person's brain is wired for sexuality. It's not a sin regardless of what some religious folk claim. That is just their religious beliefs. In reality the gay person can no more change being gay than they can change the color of their eyes. Your girlfriend's family is misinformed. Prayer will not really change someone's sexuality overnight - sexuality is not a costume or even a disease.

People may decide to change their behavior but they will still feel attracted to the same sex if they are gay or to the opposite sex if they are heterosexual or to both if they are bisexual.

You cannot just stop being who you really are -- anyone who tells you that, is just in denial or living in a fantasy world.

I must agree with you. We as Gay's can't change. Even if we wanted to. I have experienced terrible turmoilts in my life. I went through two heterosexual marriages, just to be "Normal" in society for acceptance. I know now that this was the wrong way of life for me. I am so much a better person with living my life the way I seem to fit. What most people don' t know , is that we are happy people that live their lives. That contribute to society, that we pay our taxes and support our families. What they see as being Gay, is mostly what had been portrait during the earl 60's 70's. Where the AIDS epidemic broke out. And Gay men were shown as very active, Sex hungry individuals that back than seemed to have no moral values. Neverthless, that is not true of us. We live our lives, we contribute and all we ask is that we are being accepted. Nothing more and nothing less. Forget about these therapies, changing Gay's etc. They are all faked. Gay's are happy gay's. We do not need to change. We are loved the way we are!

I vote that the majority of the world would rather be ignorant than educated.

Some people say religion can change a person. Something as ingrained as your sexuality, that I don't see as ever being something changeable. You can change your hair colour with dye, your eyes with contacts, your skin with make-up and masks. But your hair will always truly be the colour it originally was, same with your eyes, same with your skin. The same thing holds true for your sexual identity. You can act straight, gay, or otherwise, but you will always be at the core what you were born. You might even be able to fool yourself some of the time, but your soul knows better than your brain.

If prayer can't turn my hair blue, then why could it ever make me heterosexual?

Oh and that magically pill that makes you straight? Not going to happen. The world isn't that homophobic anymore. Besides, who would ever go take their child or themselves to get that 'treatment' even if it was available? They'd be doubly stigmatic.

In short: Can't change who you are, you are born you. You can change how you act and how you look, but never who you are.

Because people believe that being Gay is a choice, and you are doomed to hell to think otherwise. When in fact animals are as gay as humans. You are born gay and there are genetics & Science behind it. It's no ones fault. Gays have the right to marry and it is only the religious fundamentalists like Ann Coulter that's against them.

The best thing to do is Love & Respect everyone.

I don't get that either. Everyone knows how negatively being GLBT is frowned upon, but there are still people who insist that we chose it. They think we're just looking for attention and that we want to be rebels (or sexual deviants) for the fun of it.

All the years of bashing... that's certainly not the kind of attention I've been looking for.

But, anything is possible. I suppose I COULD change the way I am and convert to heterosexuality, but before too long I'd have to be committed to a psychiatric hospital because that conversion really wouldn't work for me.

Many gays have come out of the gay lifestyle quite successfully. Some have accepted Christ and just stopped practicing homosexuality.
Involving ones self in the gay lifestyle is a conscious choice for many. Some are led into it and "recruited" by other homosexuals. They are convinced their homosexual feelings are normal and right for them. They are convinced that the unthinkable to others is normal for them.
All sex feels great. Everyone loves getting their rocks off. The homosexual lifestyle is being taught as "alternate" in schools and willing homosexuals (male or female) are easy prey if you want one.
The opposite sex, after all, is sometimes hard to get along with.
I think homosexuality is the lazy man or womans way.
Sexually, a person doesn't have to do what they really don't want to do unless there is abuse involved.

It's because they are thinking that Gay is Bad. There is such fear and loathing of being gay, that people want to believe it can be changed, like AA can cure alcoholism. I spent 5 years trying to cure my homosexuality with Christian Science & Prayer. I wasted 5 years of my life, not accepting who I was!!! The thing that really pisses me off that now, Christian Science accepts homosexuality!

I think anyone can make certain changes in the way they act, and the things they do.
The way a person feels inside their secret self, that's another matter.
Lots of gay guys have chosen to find a girl they could like, and even love in some ways, and gotten married, because that's what society expected of them... Girls too.
But if you're a guy and in your secret heart you love other guys, it WOULD take a miracle of God to change that!
It's fine to pray for anything we can, but overnight results?!
Quite rare.

well i know some people are gay and thats just the way they are, but i know a couple girls that have been out with guys and been in love. And then turned around and said they were lesbians. they have sex together and they don't date guys anymore. i think some people have a choice and others just don't. People probably assume if one person can change there sexuality then everyone can.

I think gay people are born gay. I don't think someone becomes gay or chooses to be gay, but some people do believe that. Some people think that gay people like being gay, which isnt a problem, I'm not gay, but i have no problem with gay people. Some people just don't see it that way.
