My neighbors are strange, drinking heavily and raising children...they have 3 dogs in the house barking constantly..their yard is icky. I guess it is something to ponder...how do they live like that?

It's a complicated social mix of many variables existent individually and together as a family "unit" (I hate using that word).
You have to look at one's mental and emotional level of intellect and/or maturity. This applies to each individual member of the family.
Next, take into notice on how well they all exist (or not) as a family.
Logically, happy people don't keep "icky" ill-maintained home yards. Such publicly displayed items pose a "clue" to a trained social services/psychological/psychiatric professional (wow--that WAS a mouthful)!
And yes...such depressive states DO affect other family members......and some theorize depression can spread to others--much akin to viruses--and evolve into dysfunction.
Albeit true ALL families carry degrees of dysfunction, some are more prevalent---and sad---than others.

yeah i got neighbors. a duplex both sides have kids one family have smaller children the other has older children, always partying and the older children had 4 dogs, but the pit bull bit the little girl next door on the head so now they have 3 dogs that bark and jump at the fence, im im sure someone else will get bit by one of the other dogs

i used to have really weird neighbors. i lived out in the country and my neighbors would watch each others houses with binoculars (sp?). ive also had neighbors that were couples and they would fist fight out in the yard and some other family member would tape it. there were some seriously trashy ppl where i grew up so as soon as i was old enough i got a job and got out. i often wonder how ppl can stand to be so trashy and unproductive.

Years back, we noticed our neighbors are always loud and yelling, screaming in their house often. After several years, we noticed we have become like them, maybe even exceeding them. (There could be a truth that we will eventually become like our neighbors, all falling to the lowest common denominator).
