If it helps my topic is: Assuming college's sole purpose is to prepare you for a bright future how effective is it in doing so. In other words does attending college really guarantee a successful future? I am arguing that it doesnt simply because there a re plenty of people who does not posses a degree yet still are successful, there are people who has a degree yet aren't successful, and I currently have completed a year of college and I don't feel any more prepare for my future and I have taken a lot of courses geared towards my major

The most important thing to do when writing an argumentative paper is to anticipate what someone who disagrees with your view would say in response to your points, and offer counter arguments to them. Make sure that someone who disagrees with you would have a hard time challenging you, don't just try to convince someone who had no opinion on the subject.

Your points sound good, but again, make sure to acknowledge the weaknesses of your argument and account for them. Also, I wouldn't recommend using the last one you listed. It is not a good idea to reference personal experience in such a paper, because that is only your experience. Another person's experience may totally differ from yours. This is actually considered a logical fallacy, and is a weakness in an argumentative paper.

'plenty' doesnt matter...its all about percentage and probability...out of a 100 people i can have 2 happy dropouts for every 30 and wait for the population to reach 6.5 billion and say there are 'plenty' of people who are happy dropouts...it doesnt make sense...your reasoning there isnt solid...

But most of those arguments are not likely to apply to the average person, and are, in most opinions, flawed. Statistics bear this out. College is a better choice generally.

Look at the average income of a college grad versus a non-college grad. Look at the average life span. Look at the average ranking of happiness. All favor college grads. In fact, look at virtually any life metric of a college grad vs. not, and more than likely, college comes out on top.

Only three more years. Guys have spent more time in Iraq than that. You can handle it.
