I was told I needed bolts in my front suspension replaced because some have fallen out and wearing down or something and if I didnt that my engine was in danger of falling out.

Did they mean the busings to the kframe? Or is there something else that could potentially have my engine fall out that they were talkin about.

Bolts and bushings are two different things.

A bolt is a threaded fastener. With its partner, the nut (or threaded hole), it keeps the parts of your car together.

There are two types of bushing in a car.

One kind of bushing is a sort of sleeve or washer that keeps metal parts from touching each other, in order to cushion shock and vibration. You find these where suspension parts are mounted to the frame or subframe, where subframes are mounted to the frame, and yes, where the engine is mounted to the chassis.

Another is a bearing that has no rollers. You will find these in the knobs of manual window winders and such, where the precision and long life of a roller or ball bearing is not needed.

If it's a bolt whose failure would cause your engine to fall out, it's in the engine mounts, not the suspension. If you truly have a missing engine mounting bolt, GET IT FIXED!

Your engine is held in by Engine Mounts (usually a dampener block with a bolt sticking out the top that serves as a link between the engine and the chassis). Bolts in the suspension should not affect whether the engine falls out. However, there are bushings in the suspension that if they wear out, can cause serious damage to the steering/suspension. You don't want holes with no bolts, because it too can cause serious damage.

Bushings are round hollow metal (or plastic) collars that sit in the holes of the frame so that when the bolts go through them the bolts don't get worn on rough edges.

Bushings are cylindrical metal linings used to reduce friction between two moving parts; they were talking about front suspension bolts, not bushings.

No, bushing are more like a sleeve that the bolts go throug for added support.
