Depending on where you work, an employer can change the schedule at his own discretion. Sometimes, they have to juggle people around in order to fill voids (someone else may be sick). If you made plans for tomorrow evening, maybe your boss can let you have the time off IF he can get someone else to cover for you. You can always ask.

well, really it depends on where you work. I was in management at one point, and in Ohio, the employer cannot change your schedule at the last minute. They are allowed to change it up to 48 hours in advance and they have to ask you if you can work the hours/ day, whatever.if you do not agree, you don't have to work them. check in your state for labor laws. there should be a webpage either through your state gov page or federal gov. page. just remember though, if it is a easily filled job or you have alot of co- workers.. like a fast food chain or clothing store, the unwritten law is help me and i'll help you. i.e., work these hours or you'll get none on the next schedule. sucks but it's true

Quit...other than complain to your boss and your boss' supervisor that is about it....the employer has the right to change the schedule at their will unless you have a contract that says differnently

Now it is unfair and inconsierate but they can do this...the only thing they are doing is upsetting employees and running some off..you have to consider if you want to work for a company like this.

Technically, the change is illegal because there was no notice made on you for an ample time to prepare. Inform your superior that the consent of employees must be taken if there is a change. If the irregularity continues, write a complaint and file it with the concerned government office in your area for appropriate action to be taken.

I agree with the last answer.

I believe they are suppose to give you at least 24 hours notice when they change your schedule.

Now whether they can enforce the new changes when they give you notice I don't know.

You may want to check out Labor Laws or do search on Labor Laws.

I REALLY wish I could help. That has happened to me once long ago and I felt scared to even contest it or ask the general manager. It absolutly ruined my weekend plans with my daughter that I see about once a month because of how far away she lives. Good luck!

I know in California your supervisor can change your schedule 72 hours out. But, to prove it you need to have a copy of the original.

Yes an employer can legally change your schedule. They can also fire you for non compliance. If you aren't able to do your job then you should quite before they fire you.

Yes, he can change your schedule, but he can't force you to work overtime. Make sure you're paid time and-a-half if you work it.
