Instant Messaging Programs such as Yahoo Messanger, AIM, MSN, IQC and many others.
Emails, such as Yahoo, Gmail, MSN and many others.
IP Phone calls using services like Skype or Yahoo Messanger.
VOIP calls using services like Vonage.
Chat rooms, Way to many to list
Forums, Even more then chat rooms.
Usenet, The oldest message boards on the net.

Aren't you attempting to do that now using this message board ?
There are several different types of communication available through the internet such as e-mail , Instant Messaging , VoIP (Voice over IP) , Audio and Video broadcasts that you can send and recieve. You need to be a bit more specific.
