I think a combination of all of them for whatever the situation is is in order. I
would and did, when the kids were small, took them to Judo. Our grandson takes Karate and has a black belt. He also helps with the teaching aspect of it.
He has been in a lot of tournaments. We are very proud of him.

My hubby taught son to swing hard, follow thru, and aim for the nose. It worked for him. The group of bullies stopped as soon as one of them ended up on the ground with a very swollen, bloody nose, after 1 punch. We don't advocate violence, but he had put up with it for 2 years. Enough is enough.

any martial arts...and running only as a last resort. The first thing to try is to swalow your pride and just walk away. I'd rather have my feelings hurt versus hospital bills and court costs and a possible police record. Words are but what they are...words. As long as the advisary doesn't pay my bills, who cares what they have to say, I've learned to block out what I don't want to listen to.

When I was in the military, I was a hand to hand combat instructor. I know ways of using your opponent's force and weight to your advantage. I wouldn't teach it to my kid but if he or she came home with a black eye, I'd give a beginner lesson or two.
