In the Philippines, the K.K.K. was the Kagalang-galangang Kapitapitagang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan. It means the league of Filipino revolters who fought against the Spanish for freedom.

'"On Dec. 24th, 1865, a group of six Confederate veterans met in Pulaski, TN, and formed a group, giving it the name Ku Klux Klan (from the Greek 'kuklos' or circle). In it's declaration in Nashville in 1867, it stated its intention was to "protect the weak, the innocent and the defenseless...to relieve the injured and oppressed." At this meeting, Nathan Bedford Forrest became the first Grand Wizard of the Empire.
The group operated as a quasi-military group, adding more former rebel soldiers to its ranks. Initially their intention was to frighten, pretending they were "ghosts of dead rebel soldiers", thus the white robes and pointed hoods. Gradually they escalated into violence; beatings, lynchings, burnings, and other acts of terrorism including murder and rape."
This was only the beginning of the Ku Klux Klan, I encourage you read more of the Klan's history, to get a better understanding.

They were white men who believed they had the right to use violence against blacks who were "uppity" or otherwise insisted on their rights. They also lynched blacks, burned crosses on front yards, destroyed black churches and attempted otherwise to keep blacks from voting after they were given the right to vote. Whites acting to support blacks were also threatened.
They claimed "white supremacy" but in doing so offered the clearest evidence of their degradation.

I am curious. Why are you asking? The KKK still exists. Are you asking what the organization started as or do you want to know what they became? Is this a school question?
