I was formula feeding as well as breast feeding once a day my 5 week old baby. I have taken the breast feeding out coz the milk isnt any good, and his poo has gone from yellow and mustardy to green, horribly stinky and sticky. Is that just from the formula or the age or is it something wrong?

For everyone that is asking why i couldnt breastfeed, My milk isnt getting the nutrients, I can feed him for an hour (or if I express he will drink 250 mils) and he will be hungry again 20 minutes later. I asked the doctor and he told me that its doing no good

It's just the swap from breast milk to formula. The yellowish has something to do with the natural nutrients your baby was getting.

Breastmilk is always good (fresh from the breast, if you are talking about milk you had sitting around then that's different). The green is normal to see when you switch a baby and can sometimes be normal on its own (it shouldn't last too long though). The stench and stickiness is from the lack of breastmilk as formula is hard on a baby's system and doesn't contain nutrients that are packaged the same way or as many as breastmilk. Talk with your baby's doctor, and you should really keep at the breastmilk. Best of luck.

My daughter had green poo for the first 4/5 months of life. It has something to do with iron, as well as the formula, I think. She has been on nestle good start since four weeks and it didn't start to look somewhat normal until she was probably about 4/5 months. The pediatrician said it was fine and to continue with the iron. Iron is an important part of brain development, so don't sweat it. Green and stinky is fine.

I work in childcare and have found that as soon as you make any changes to a babies diet they tend to have loose, stinky bowels for a few days.. a week even.. I'd say its pretty normal and theres no need to worry.. unless of course it persists or the baby shows discomfort... then it could be as simple as changing the formula... I'm not a mum or anything but still hope that helps :-)

Why is the breast milk not any good? It might be from the breast milk that wasn't good but babies who get formula have stinky poo.

It is definately the formula, in other words, he's healthy. He could possibly also start to get constipated and need help to poo, if hes constipated he will cry alot. Natural ways of relieving him is to help him out by "taking his temperature" down there, or prune juice maybe an ounce a day mixed with formula, or rub castor oil on his belly in clockwise motion.

Its the iron in the formula that turns poo green. Nothing to worry about unless your baby has a fever. Non the less you should probably check with your baby's doctor to see if your baby needs a formula with less iron.

That is perfectly normal. What you do want to look out for is constipation which can happen when changing baby's milk. Any longer than two days and you will want to have baby seen by a doctor.

it's the formula, take a deep breath.
every formula is different but the green results are the same, that is another benefit of breastfeeding, less smelly diapers!
Congrats on your new baby!!!!
