Low coolant level will cause the heater core to not fill with hot engine coolant.

As an auto parts salesman, my advice would be to get the leak fixed first. Losing your heat is a bad sign that the vehicle may be overheating. If it severly overheats, the engine will seize up and will never run again. That could possibly fix the heat problem by fixing the leak problem. What kind of car is it?

If it's leaking antifreeze inside the car it's your heater core.
If it's outside, it could be,water pump,a hose,a loose clamp on a hose,or a blown head gasket. If your exhaust smells like antifreeze it's a head gasket. Price? Depends on the shops hourly rate. Head gasket will be expensive.

Sounds like your heater core (a small, separate radiator that provides heat) has gone away. It may be as little as a hundred dollars to repair it or it could be several hundred, depending upon what type car you own and where the heater core is located. Good luck.
