I'll tell you one. Michael Borodin was a Chemist in Russia in the late part of the 19th Century. He did work on fluorocarbons. He wrote music part time. His "Prince Igor" ballet is still a standard in the musical repertoire, and the melody from one passage was recast a popular song called "Stranger from Paradise" about 50 years ago.
