When someone of her color who came from a poor background excels and has made it, the other members of her color group feel as if she is supposed to help them too. I have heard her called white but she is nothing but. She has done alot of charity work here in the States but her academy for girls in South Africa is a thorn in "blacks" sides. Statements have been made that she should have done it here. I think she made the right choice. It would have been more appreciated there than here because of the " I want it now and the it must be a designer label" mentality that abounds in our society.
Some are still carrying the "we want our 40 acres and a mule" mentality that the white man still owes them a living and if a black person has money and it was NOT made from having street cred' then they are considered oreo cookies. ( black on the outside, white on the inside)

I think it's actually detrimental to the Black community to say "your acting white", when someone black is having success in their life. That is what it looks like to me. There are no more white and black choices. It's personal choice now. I wish this would stop.

Also, Oprah is a real advocate for the black community. To the point that a time or two I've been offended with her statements that whites can't understand Blacks. How so? I've had an inkling lately, it has been through our complacency. Through not being willing to talk about it for fear of being called Racist.

So, how is it; that the black community is fighting itself so hard?

OH, and one more thing. She's completely against Hip-Hop. The way it degrads women. Of course a rapper isn't going to be positive about her.

They don't call her white because of the color of her skin. They call her white because of her behavior. She acts and behaves like a normal person. What does that mean you ask? Let me tell you. She behaves like the majority of society. That would be the white society. HOWEVER, what they fail to acknowledge is the fact that she is constantly promoting the Black cause. I suppose she is doing it in a white manner, lol. If she was getting down with the Homeys, Bros or the Sistas then they would be all for it. She left the Hood behind and they don't like it.

I think that most black people respect her, even if they do not watch her show. It is boring, and that is not a race thing. Every now and then I watch her. There is really only two things that I can think about. Oprah has betrayed her roots somewhat. First of all religion. Like most black people we were raised in the church. Now she speaks of the universe and aligning planets. The second thing is building the girls school in Africa. I think that was great. Yet, maybe she should have contributed back to the neighborhoods that she called home for a long time. The community that supported her.

they called Oprah white because basically she appeals to white women,it's not her fought, but when you get up there in the stratosphere and you're black you really don't have a color. It's like Michael Jordan,Shaquille,Halle Berry these people are so popular that a lot of people don't see or ignore race because of celebrity status

She doesn't wear her hair in corn rows, have a grill, drive an escalade with spinner rims, dress like a thug, wear a baseball cap sideways, live on welfare or spell her name with ia at the end. She is classy, well spoken, charitable and a credit to any race.

as a white man, i can see both sides of the coin here...her critics look at the fact that her audience is indeed mostly white because in all honesty, culturally, upper class white women can relate to her more, she tries to act "real" and like a regular chick but she will never be accepted as that cuz she has money

Bah, it's just jealousy. She's one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry and they know they can't touch her. One can't attack her about her not giving back to communities or trying to work with people, so they attack another weak point, which is usually race.

Besides, I wouldn't worry about comments from a man who wears a fake bullet proof vest as a fashion statement.

I'm in australia, and didn't even realise there was a racial issue surrounding oprah. I see her as a woman who has worked very hard and now gives alot back to the community and world wide issues. I don't see her by her colour or race or gender.

Who knows why dumb people say the things they say... Oprah is an intelligent, positive, powerful and wealthy woman (granted- most of those are usually associated with white people) but times are changing!! THANK GOODNESS!!!!!
I do hope that people of color will stop hating on each other for their successes & stop equating intelligence with white. That is in itself, ignorant. But, change always causes growing pains.

BTW - my little girl is mulatto and i hope she never has to hear those stupid comments & embraces both sides of her family!!
