in 35mm film, there are 4 sprocket holes to a frame, 16 frames to a foot, travels at 24 frames a second, 10,000 feet runs around 90 minutes, an average low-budget feature shoots about a 10:1 ratio (that's a 100,000 feet of shot footage edited down to 10,000). Big budgets can shoot a ratio well over 50:1. Writer's typically get paid 2.5% of the films budget. During princple photography, a director can smoke more than 60 cigarettes a day. When a DP says it will take 20 minutes to set lights, he really mean 35 minutes. When a Grip says it will take 10 minutes to rig a shot, it will take 10 minutes. If an editor cuts more than 15 minutes of finished scenes in a day, he's working way too hard, and should get some sleep. The average pay for a union below the line worker is about $60,000 per year.
