For a newly pierced ring I would use surgical steel, if it is already healed, then use whatever you want. Just make sure its sanitized when you put it in. Most are pierced in 14gauge

Most definitely surgical steel. I have a pair of 12ga captive bead rings I put in the holes in my ears when they get irritated (usually from a bad pair of regular earrings,) and they always heal nicely. I've never had a better pair of earrings than those.

Surgical steel, But why do it? Its on the way out, old hat now they say. Why risk infection and problems later on? Good Luck anyway..

i have a piercing in my belly button. I have had both steel and gold. For me the best choice was gold.

Gold or sugical stainless steel, neither tarnish and both are easy to keep clean and sanitary.
