We didnt know anything about them when we got them and we had know idea what they go through to get to their colors. They are in a healthy environment and we'd rather have them here then at the nasty pet store.

Painted fish don't get pregnant, they lay eggs. Only livebearers: guppies, Endlers, platys and mollies get pregnant.

To encourage breeding, heat the tank to 84 degrees. Sunlight also encourages breeding. They need heavy plantings to raise the fry. Once spawned, you have to remove the parents as they may eat the babies.

They technically don't get pregnant, but the females will become heavy bodied and fat looking when they are carrying eggs.
