chess is like any other stimulant to your brain and forces more activity to be done. Chess doesn't take concentration, i 'd think a rubik's cube would and the age of a person would matter also. I would think kids have less activity in the brain when doing activities that require concentration because their brains are used to seeing patterns.

Chess does good to your brain. It makes you think ahead of the player. So I have heard it makes you think harder.
