I haven't returned to work becuause as certified by medical doctors that I am unfit at present

If you are unfit for work, you don't need to resign. You are already unemployed.

Forced to resign? not really, but the company can make your life pretty miserable - like have you clean the toilets when you do get back to work.
If there are layoffs, you can get layed off even though you're on disability, they just can't do a layoff of one.
