Simple math.
The diagonal is the line that makes the rectangle into 2 triangles. That diagonal is called the hypotenuse (when its one side of triangle). Pythagoras showed that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the square of the other 2 sides.
So one side is 12 - 12 squared is 144.
The other side is 5 - 5 squared is 25.
Added together is 169. The square root of 169 is 13.

The Pythagorean Theorem states that
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
just do 12^2 + 5^2
this gives you 169. the square root of 169 is 13.
so the diagonal is 13 ft long.

did you be conscious of the Hypotenuse thingy? or something reminiscent of that shall we make 12 = A and 16 = B and the diagonal = C in this theorem C^2, C sq. = A sq. + B sq. So upload up A sq. and B sq., and the inspiration of the answer is C - the diagonal length. Forgotten the call of the concept. i have not practice math for extremely a lengthy time period, i'm presently examining business enterprise the position maths are for the point of counting funds, income and loss.
