Depends on the state. You need to go to whatever county/city office that you would pay the property taxes to, here it is the county collector's office. Tell them your problem, and work out a way to pay off this tax.
You will most likely have to pay a small fine. But if you donot take care of this soon, the county can sell your land at auction to cover the tax.

If they're a little late, you get charged interest. The county always gets its money. If you don't pay, some nice person will pay them for you. Then you have a certain amount of time to repay the nice person (plus huge interest charges). If this cetain amount of time goes by and you don't repay, then the nice person goes back to the county and gets a sheriff's deed. Then the nice person owns the house and you don't and you can be thrown out. Any mortgage, hoe equity loan, etc. are still your problem.

There will be a penalty for what you owe and so much per month. Depending upon the state if you do not pay you can loose the property.
The lender can also place you in foreclosure.
