the white bearded bum with socks on his hands will lend you a square and have you over for dinner in the pee tunnel.
oh good god you know his name.

They did that here in my homestate of CT and things are much better. Everyone feared that restaurants would do poor business since nobody would go anymore. But most are doing better, since people like me go out much more. All the old smokers are still there anyway, just not smoking.
If not being able to smoke in your favorite restaurant or bar is too hard for you, maybe that should encourage you to quit (seriously, if you can't go the length of your meal without a cigarettte then you may be more addicted than your realize).

We've had that law in NY for a couple of years now. I read in the paper the other day that they are now banning smoking in government funded apartments in NYS, as an experiment.

they already did that in my state...it sucked (if you smoked) a couple places even went out of business because of it (in my city, you can go across the river to the next state pretty easily, so that's what people did, so our local bars lost business).
you'll be surprised how BAD the places you usually hang out actually smell when no one is masking the bad smell with smoke!

sure...we've all been there.
and to all those who think smoking should be banned in bars (i have no problem with not smoking in a restaurant, but BARS?!), think about what you're doing. you're turning personal things and rights over to a nanny state government, who may as well be your mother forcing you to eat your vegetables and exercise.
yes, we know it's bad to smoke, and i'll quit eventually, but let the individual bars and clubs decide if they want to allow smoking...then let the free market decide. some clubs/bars are smoking, some aren't. and please spare the crap about bar/club workers being exposed to cigarette smoke. nobody held a gun to their heads and forced them to work there. most of them smoke, anyways. it's just crappy work, that's all, and i don't see anybody taking mine companies to task for the horrible conditions our country's miners work in. black lung, anybody? besides, obesity kills WAY more people than smoking ever will. so, are we gonna ban fatties or mcdonalds or twinkies? make fatties stand/sit/move around in certain areas?
think about the implications of this.
my $.02...

Yeah, they're trying that near Houston where I live. Oh well, I'll just stay home and drink, eat, smoke and do whatever else I want to. Everybody is invited.

Yeah, restaurants, outside hospitals, you name it. Now they place us outside in tiny spaces, where we look like we've committed a big crime. Next, it'll be our living rooms. And to think, when I was little, all the people smoking looked so cool!
