Freedom. Security is an illusion.

The fearmongers would like you to believe that terrorist are the biggest threat to Americans. Let's examine that shall we.

This is a list of th top 15 things that will kill you. The number is per 100,000 people.

1 Diseases of heart 222.2
2 Malignant neoplasms188.6
3 Cerebrovascular diseases 51.1
4 Chronic lower respiratory diseases 41.5
5 Accidents (unintentional injuries) 38.1
6 Diabetes mellitus 24.9
7 Alzheimer's disease 22.5
8 Influenza and pneumonia 20.3
9 Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis 14.5
10 Septicemia 11.4

15 Assault (homicide) 5.9

Hmm....no terrorists.

So where are they?

In between the chances of getting struck by lightning and getting hit by an asteroid.

I'm several orders of magnitude more likely to die slipping in my tub or falling down the stairs than I am to be blown up by a terrorist. But I don't see us declaring a war on stairs or bathtubs.

Fear the terrorists? Only if you drink the kool-aid.
