They said something about professional news writers should not use "it" to refer to an animal. This is wrong because they should know enough to not refer to animals as inanimite objects. Should Yahoo answers adopt a similar policy in its community guidelines?

I'm all for calling animals "he" or "she" and politicans "it."

Hmmm, that's interesting, although I'm not offended or anything when people say "it." I'm a huge animal lover but I don't think this kind of political correctness is necessary. I say "it" all the time when I'm referring to kids. It's ridiculous that this is something an organization is concerned about when there are much more important issues to work on.

I don't know.........if people can't understand on their own that a cow is a female, a bull is a male, a rooster is a male, a chicken is a female, and a mare is female than I don't think that they really care if an animal is called an "it" or not.

Peta people are idiots. Are they afraid we're going to hurt the animal's self esteem? Do animals suddenly speak fluent English?

Why don't we just make the noise associated with that particular animal instead? "In other news, the president was spotted walking his *BARK* at the *BARK* park..."

That would make just as much sense, wouldn't it?

Sure, why not?

The animals I've trapped have all become my pets. Its okay to eat fish 'cause they dont have any feelings.

Wow, that is the one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, but then again, what should we expect from PETA?

everything that peta does is great.

I'm a proud member of peta and I don't think calling animals he/she will make much of a difference, but it would be a nice change.

I don't mind saying, "She was one tasty piece of meat" about my rib eye steak.

There's room for all of God's creatures........right next to the mashed potatoes!

Yeah. Animals have their own gender, so it would be rude to call them in any other way.
