I USED to give to the " homeless" and " the hungry", but I don't anymore, and I have a really, really good reason why I don't. As I was walking down the street one day, a homeless guy asks me for a couple of dollars. When I go in my bag to give it to him, I hadn't noticed that he had stood up. The next minute I know, he tears my bag out of my hand, and runs down the street, and disappears around the corner. In the end, he wound up with almost 300.00 of cash, my credit cards, ( that he had the chance to use one of) and about 12 dollars in loose change that I had thrown haphazardly in my bag. I wound up with my driver's license stolen, my money, about 20 dollars charged on my credit card, all of my change, but that wasn't really important, ALL of my pictures of my friends, and some really cute lip gloss that I had just bought for 22.50!! After that, I wont even look their way anymore. I am sorry that one person had to spoil it for the rest of the homeless, but what would you do in my shoes?
When I give to the homeless now, I make sure that it is only through the Internet, or the mail. At least that way I am volunteering to hand my money over.

Hobos are transients that travel from town to town doing odd jobs
Homeless people tend to stay in one spot and will beg for money.
I live in the San Francisco bay area. Homelessness is a huge issue here. Not a day goes by that I dont have to think about this question. I have no general policy. I read each person who asks and then make a decision. There are a few elderly homeless women in my area that are mentallly ill. They've got nowhere to go and are afraid of "the system." I always give them money or food.

I give food and drinks sometimes.
If they are 'that poor' - they would need it.
But i've actually been shouted at by a hobo for that lol... so you can tell he musta been a druggie or something...
annnd thats why i don't give money ..
Also i never know how much to give - i mean spare change just seems a bit cheap.... but then do i really want to give them like £10??

I give whatever is in my purse...I try to be generous.
Yes, I have heard how so many of them are "making" so much money...but I think that's urban legend.
I figure if someone is needy enough to beg, I am going to give them whatever I have.
Yes, maybe they'll go buy alcohol or crack...not a concern to me.
God doesn't ask us to judge, he just says "If you love me, feed my sheep."
I understand how people feel differently about this issue. It took me a long time to come up with my current plan, and I am very satisfied with managing it as I do. In the past, some of my ideas didn't feel right. (For instance, my sister carries cans of spam & beanie weenies and applesauce, and will give people food instead of money...this doesn't work for me)
Sometimes when I don't have any money to give, I figure that's just God protecting that person from the temptation of whatever the money would buy..? but I don't know...

Never, I work two jobs just to keep a roof over myself and my two boys heads, and we never have any money to go anywhere or do anything, the fridge is always empty days before payday, most of them choose to live that way, it's taking the easy way out, letting other people pay their way, and taking advantage of people with soft hearts ( I have a soft heart, by the way ) There are alot of homeless in our area, and they use the money to buy crack or booze, why would I want to finance their habit when I am hungry and working my @ss off.

No. Im probly more poor than they are. And you got to watch out for people like that. Some of those hobos actually have money and are just trying to cheat people by acting like hobos. And some might just spend it on booze.

i try to give money to them... i like to help.. so what if its just alittle bit... why should i tip and a waiter or waitress that didnt bring me my dr. pepper or my buffalo wings. i think giving some money to a homeless person will help him to have some dr. pepper or some buffalo wings...
i was at a baseball game and i saw a dude playing a saxophone i was going to give him money but he has a talent... and he was diffenetly going to spend the money i give him on booze but then again so will i.
i saw a bum with a sign that said "Ninja's killed my family, i need money for kung Fu lessons" that made me laugh so i gave the man money. because even though he's poor he still has his humor.
but maybe ninja's are the reason why people or poor.... damn those ninja's!

sure for sure if the signal they are conserving up says hungry favor money and he appears like he's not hungry in any respect then for sure you'll not provide him any money, as hostile to skinny and hungry.
