OK- my teacher hat is going on here.....I just had 36 young people in my program Confirmed 2 weeks ago.

Confirmaiton is not about the money. I hope you get little money, actually. It is about receiving the Gifts of the Holy Spirit- and making a declaration in public about your faith.

Any money you receive will soon be gone. The true gifts you receive- a bible, a rosary, etc...you will have forever. I still have the bible my sponsor gave me.

You get what you get, as far as material gifts are concerned.

Confirmation is not about reception of material gifts. It's about the reception of Divine Gifts from the Holy Spirit.

Having said that, it's not wrong to receive gifts from family and friends for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

I, and some of the other answerers here, are just a little concerned you are placing too much emphasis on the material gifts and not nearly enough on the Spiritual Gifts.

Peter said to the man lame from his mother's womb, "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength." Acts 3:6-7. "And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money", "But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money." Acts 8:18, 20. How can we purchase Heaven today, if, even back in the apostles' days it could not be purchased? "And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition", "Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered", "Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men." Mk 7. My friend, please do not be deceived by those who make themselves look holy, but fully reject the word of God, which they profess to uphold. "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God" {Ten Commandments Ex 20}.
