I think a bit of both. The media sells fear and things of morbid attraction because it attracts viewers, which increases advertising value and hence, more bucks to the network. It's like a car wreck on a freeway, everyone's gotta rubberneck. It's our nature. The more bad juju we see or get from the media, the more we're pushed in the direction of mistrusting our neighbor.

Conversely, with the drift towards self centeredness, amoral societal values, and the driving need for instant gratification on an exponential scale, we as a nation place our own needs above honor, duty, and social responsibility.

Relationships are viewd through these two lenses via the individual, and I don't like where it's going.

People are less trustworthy? In the latter paragraph, yes, less trustworthy than say in the 1940's.
The part about the media is effecting how we view others, NOT whether or not an individual is trustworthy.

I don't blame the media..........they don't help. If they would just report the news and not just run party lines politicians may be trusted more. But, I think the media is guilty of running a story to death until they have created a panic issue.

I think there have always been untrustworthy people but the media has made it their mission to only air dirt. So it appears that there is more going on in the world that is bad.
