No he wasn't or at least his wife and children didn't think so.This is another case of gay activists "laying claim" to another famous person. Gay activists often claim that this or that famous person was gay in an attempt to gain credibility .

I don't know but if you read some of his sonnets, it does reference another male character. He justifies this by saying that the object of his affection (in one of his sonnets) was really a chick but was made a guy at the last minute by Mother Nature (weird, I know).
