at all levels the sport of ultimate teaches respect for the rules and your opponents while still encouraging competitive and athletic excellence. i don't always experience that when playing or watching soccer.

I have played Ultimate for the past 20+ years. When I started in high school, I was on the varsity soccer team as well as the Ultimate (club) team. Maybe because I didn't grow up with either, I didn't have a favorite... until my lack of skills development got me cut from soccer after 3 years. Over the years, I've met many excellent Ultimate players who came from a background in soccer. Aside from the foot/hand thing, the field skills and teamwork seem compatible between the two sports.

For me, Ultimate has endured because I enjoy the no-ref aspect of competition. I believe sports should make us better individuals. And I think The Spirit of the Game (rule of Ultimate) brings that in spades. I've met some real jerks, but also some incredible human beings through Ultimate.

That having been said, I have gone out to play (very) casual pick-up soccer and had a great time!

I used to play soccer, but now I am an Ultimate disc player. I love soccer, and have a huge respect for it, but there are a few advantages to ultimate, for me:

1: Its college roots give the sport a very laid-back feel, while still being very competitive. I made friends much faster playing Ultimate than I ever did playing soccer.

2: I enjoy playing a non-mainstream sport. I like that instant connection that comes when you meet someone else who plays the sport.

3: My ultimate club plays primarily barefoot, on a turf field. What can you not love about that?

4: My biggest attributes are height, jumping, and quick hands. Ultimate is tailored for people with these attributes.

Again, I love soccer. In some ways, it is much better than Ultimate. But this answer is too long already.

I am the captain of my high school's very competitive ultimate team as well as a member of the varsity soccer team and have been playing soccer all my life--I am Brazilian and it runs through my veins. So, I am very comfortable in saying that soccer is the superior sport, though I have deep respect and passion for ultimate as well. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, as people everywhere have accepted it unconditionally. And though I know how comprehensive a game ultimate is, I have to say that soccer is the more rewarding and, generally, the more exciting. Personally, I'd prefer a golaso to a layout d.

I played Soccer since I was eight and Ultimate since I was 16. I switched over to Ultimate exclusively in College because I liked it better. All sports require skill, talent and committment to get anything out of them. And good and bad people play all sports. For me, Ultimate is superior simply because I like to sprint and jump and you do that more often in Ultimate than in Soccer. I also really like the feeling of handling the disc with my hands.

I think it's these fundamental preferences that determine which game will speak the most to you.

I think they are equal but If you put effort into the sport and it rewards you then its a good sport. I also think that nobody should classify sports after they asses that because then it ruins your image of those sports and makes them less fun. so tell your team that and they will shut up
