just another question

If we imagine time to be a thing in existence, like all other things, then like all other things time has its own characteristics. An apple, for example, has it own peculiar set of characteristics that makes it an apple and not an orange. One of the many characteristics of time is the future that is completely aspirational, imaginative and anticipatory in the mind, and the other one is the past that is fully materialised aspect of the mind; this can be memorial in the mind, completely evidential in the things around us. Just like an apple, the taste of which is completely imaginary or anticipatory until actually tasted, then when tasted the taste become part of our mind and body experience as the past; taste of an apple is its characteristic, and is like its future, whereas as an apple is tasted, or is eaten, the is no more, just a memory, the past.

Now, if the time future and the time past are but two characteristics of a phenomenon in existence called time, then the time present is where the essence of time is, as an apple itself is its full actual reality. We feel as if we are moving into the future in a way of a traveller leaving behind the time past, but the fact is that all that is happening is happening in the moment present – in the time and the space now and here in which our material being is defined, and is being constantly defined. The essence of present moment is existence itself, for both time and space are but characteristics of existence that is to be, and what is not to be is never to be, neither in dream and not in memory in any shape or form. For the things not to be there is no possibility to be.

The question whether what happens in time is determined by our acceptance of the moment present does not affect the general purpose of nature; for whether we accept or not things of the world, including our physical being, will keep perusing their own course in space-time matrix towards some ultimate that human mind is unable to understand. But alongside general purpose their is conscious human purpose, and this purpose is significant and peculiar. If we let things in our life go along the flow of what is most natural then it is very likely that our human purpose will be harmed; we have to to intervene and mend things for the good of our own purpose in life. On the other hand if we totally disregards natural flow of things and event in time then this would be like trying to swim into a river disregarding all that is there, the currents, the rapids, waves and the things floating around.

There is no doubt there is virtue in acceptance, in the acceptance of reality of the present moment, but the concept of Acceptance without making an effort is meaningless. For without making an effort we might not be at any moment in time; we might not last to experience the time future f the time present. Acceptance is a virtue more to do with the immediate past of our being - once we have eaten the apple we better accept it, and enjoy the memory of eating it, for only that will best prepare us for all the apples that might fall our way in time that we like to know as the future.

The future is inevitable. It is happening right now. These few seconds it takes to write to you. It is here and the present is fleeting. The past is the past but the future. Well the future holds so many possibilities. Its best to make the most of it.

The question is interesting because the future is the present that is to come.

I agree. The present has a habit of turning into the future, whether we like it or not. Whether that future is what we want it to be depends on our willingness to deal with issues of the present.

The future is coming even as we speak, whether we are present or not, being or not, accepting or not.

The world is full of people whose notion of a satisfactory future is, in fact, a return to an idealised past.
