For poster #2: O'Donnell said that it was impossible for fire to melt steel. "For the first time in history, fire melted steel". What a blithering ignorant moron. How can someone so separated from intelligence make so much money?

It is not stupid.
Smelting any metal requires a certain temperature and that temperature must be sustained for a particular period of time. It depends on the grade of steel how hot that has to be. some metal do melt at low temperature but they don't make beams to hold up skyscrapers out of them .
For example to make case hardened steel you need high grade anthracite coal. The last High grade anthracite coal in Europe is in Kososvo. Germany must have that Kosovo coal or it cannot continue to make that high grade steel for tools. The Kosovars got to freeze out the winter in tents while their coal went to beef up German metalurgical industry.
There are a lot of different fuels and each has a temperature . However, fire is not what melts steel. Heat melts steel and that heat has to be very, very hot. A flame is not going to make that happen. Volatility is not a desireable thing because that heat dissapates quickly ( That's called an explosion or combustion) That won't melt steel to the extent of vaporizing it unless it's a nuke. A paper fire won't do that either and some materials just don't produce much heat even when burnt.
Rosie might be smarter than you think.
Maybe she took ceramics or did some welding or silversmithing . If fire was all you needed to melt steel we could weld on our kitchen stove!

Any person who has not studied chemistry may not be aware of the physical properties of compounds. Perhaps Ms. O'Donnell was misinformed by someone that she believed to be credible and did not have knowledge of chemical properties not did she take the time to verify the "fact" that "it was the first time in history that fire melted steel'(in building 7 of WTC). Apparently, Ms. O'Donnell made this statement on "The View"

Steel is not an element. It is a compound. The melting point of steel depends on the mixture of the elements it contains.

Iron (Fe) is an element that is the main component of steel. The "melting point" of iron is
1535.0 °C (1808.15 K, 2795.0 °F)
http://www.chemicalelements.com/elements/fe.html

Steel is an alloy comprised mostly of iron, with a carbon content between 0.02 % and 1.7 % by weight, depending on grade. Carbon is the most cost-effective alloying material for iron, but various other alloying elements are used such as manganese and tungsten.

At what temperature does a floor truss begin to sag if it is not coated in fire-resistant insulation? How hot can a fire burn if it is well (very well) ventilated? 1000 degrees F? 2000 degrees F? According to NASA jet fuel CAN burn as hot as 3000 degrees F. See this video to understand how the WTC tower 1 and 2 collapsed...the drywall was the "inside agent"
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Sa0u3XAYkIs

The high temperatures of the burning jet fuel, steel, plastics and other components made the whole area intensely hot and structures nearby were irrepairably damaged (building 7).

Larry Silversteing, building owner and FDNY pulled building 7.

Yes, you are right. A gasoline tanker crashed and burst into flames near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge creating such intense heat that a stretch of highway melted and collapsed.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/29/highway.collapse.ap/index.html

Burning gasoline has a temperature above 1500° E (945° C). Therefore, it can heat objects in the fire area above its ignition temperature.

"Facts" when presented with over-the-top emotion do not have much verisimilitude. Ms. O'Donnell is very passionate in her views about impeachment of President Bush and the war in Iraq. She makes rousing statements and gets the audience to respond. My question would be who is gullible enough to believe Ms. O'Donnell's rhetoric. She asks. "Historically have governments ever faked incidents or incited incidents to get them into war."

Nova did a teach on the subject of the 9/eleven assaults with extensive pictures approximately scientists doing investigations on WHY the towers fell, how did the steel provide way, and so on and so on. i'm no longer able to undergo in strategies whilst it aired yet I undergo in strategies observing it and additionally you're precise and incorrect. hearth does not technically soften steel, it does, inspite of the undeniable fact that, reason the properties of steel to grow to be weaker and allow it to bend and pass extra freely. Now think of approximately this, after some hours of unbelievable severe tempatures led to by JET gas, the beams began to sag and hunch till the factor the criteria of the development snapped aside from the beams, inflicting the crumple. i won't stand Rosie. whilst she shows us a respected degree in her physics learn and her doctoral interior the priority, i will nodand agree together with her, yet till then, she desires to maintain her mouth close. Theories like this are all nicely and strong to debate interior the privateness of your individual domicile, at the back of closed doorways, or no longer on national television. Our American government does not like it fairly is public to think of any much less of it, if our government is ever going to stand threat, human beings like Rosie could shop their mouths close till they have no longer person-friendly info.

As Billy Joel says, "She may be wrong, but she may be right."

There's lots of fire that can't melt steel. A Bic lighter, for example, can't melt steel, but it is certainly fire. Don't go around looking to create conflict and trying to misunderstand.
