I was using the bathroom last night when I felt a little trickle not sure where it was coming from. I am just wondering if I will really be able to tell when my water breaks.

For me, I was in labor on my way to the hospital and my water broke on the freeway. It was a warm and gushy feeling. Someone mentioned before that it was almost a "sweet" smell... I agree with that too. Amniotic fluid has its own smell to it. Different from urine or blood.

You might be leaking fluid...did it smell different than urine? I would say call your doctor just to run that by him/her.

Good luck.

You can have either - a slow leak, or a true breaking of the amniotic sack. Either way, you might feel like, "I'm peeing and I can't stop!" This might change due to your position, i.e., sitting or standing, laying on your side, etc. Sometimes the baby's head can act as a cork which will slow or stop the trickle if you stand up. Amniotic fluid is somewhat sweet smelling and colorless.

Your doctor or midwife can test the fluid easily with a little strip of paper, which turns colors if the fluid is amniotic fluid and not urine. I wish I had a whole box of those when I was nearing my due date - once I started having a few contractions here and there, I was constantly wondering what was going on down there!

Incidentally, the waters break outright before only 1 out of 10 labors begin. Usually they don't break until active labor has already begun.

Both of mine was a persistant trickle, at first I just sort of felt a pop then it started trickling out. It usually doesn't stop either, as amniotic fluid replinshes itslf hourly apparently. But you will definately notice the smell, it has a real sweet smell to it.

for me there was so much water at first-mind you its uncontrollable and you cant stop it-you cant even feel where its coming from but you know its coming out of you-later you may have a few trickles after the big wash, LOL. But with my 2nd child my water didnt break, they broke it at the hospital-but the first time (when I was pregnant with my oldest) my water broke while I was asleep in a water bed I thought there was a leak!

I think that it is different for everyone. For me with both kids, it was a gush. Kind of scary if you are not sure what to expect! Some people say it is a trickling, but it is a lot of liquid. You should be able to tell. Try not to worry, good luck!

It is quite possible that your water broke. When I had my first child, I just had a little leak happening. I would go get checked by the doctor and be sure that if you are to have a shower, that it is just a shower... I do not recommend a bath as you could cause infection to start. The doctor induced labor with me and finished puncturing the placenta. So this could very well be happening with you. I would not wait to see the doctor.... have a bag packed and go see the doctor now just to be on the safe side.

It really depends. I had a friend who said it was just a little & broke more later at the hospital. Another said it was a gush like you'd see on a sitcom & she actually stood in the bathtub till her husband got home to take her to the hospital to keep her carpet clean. I'm dead serious. I think it depends on the woman & the baby.

when your water breaks you will know it
if you are experiencing a vaginal discharge ahead of the "big flush" you should get your butt over to the clinic and get checked out
I don't want to alarm you but if you are trickling down there you may have a problem
how pregnant are you?
go to the Doc better safe then singing them blues later

Mine was a big gush and felt like I peed myself. I was laying down though in bed. They say if you are standing up when it happens it trickles out instead of a big gush.

Mine trickled. I knew it was amniotic fluid because it was pale and not strong smelling like urine. It was kind of "sweet."

For some women it gushes out suddenly.

So the best way to tell is color and smell.
