well if you really want to know hot dogs contain guts, ears, snout, eyes, basically everything thats left over mmmmmm, but they are a lot better than they were a while back when they contained everything that fell in the meat grinder which include cut off fingers, rats, roaches, water bugs,etc... I remember I did a report on the process of hot dogs in the 7th grade that was a long time ago. enjoy. If you want to see how pigs go from loving life to your fork and knife just search the web. man I'm hungry for hot dogs now.

O.k.--I worked in a processing plant while attending college (summer job) and everyone who posted is RIGHT, LOL.

It's unbelievable what goes into those yummy dogs. Now, we're talking the typical hot dogs, not the pricier ones. (Though I doubt they're much purer.)

I recall this huge vat that forklifts would drive up to and dump, literally DUMP all the remnants into. Then they'd add a bunch of nasty chemicals into it (the recipe was spray painted on the wall next to the vat and instead of say, cup/pint there was "shovel full")

Those remnants were essentially the trimmings left over from all the other meat departments/areas. They do include viscera, almost any nasty animal by-product you could imagine.

You may be thinkin' of this next time you go to a ball game. :)

You don't want to know. I worked in a turkey processing plant. The bones and carcasses would get ground up. A machine with a screen separated the bone chips from the soft stuff. The soft would go for hot dogs and bologna. Alot of really gross stuff goes into them.

I don't want to know. I like them too much and when my boys play Little League, we eat them most of the Spring and Summer. My mom's brother used to work at a packing plant and started to tell me one time about how they are made and also about how ham looks while it is hanging. I stopped him in mid-sentence and told him never to tell me.

Someone made the mistake of telling me how Jello and Puddings are made (the box type ---powdered) and now I will never be able to eat those again. :o( :o)

which kind ? i worked at a meat plant and the all beef hot dogs were made from all beef, pieces left over from cutting steak and roasts,a percentage of fat, sodium and spice, blend with water, and injected into edible plastic tube, then smoked in a room size oven. most hotdogs are prossesed meat and should not be a signifigant part of any diet.
