It was a big deal. Being born prior to World War II I lived through it all. I remember in grade school how we had drills for the dropping of atomic bombs. I remember the bomb shelters for communities and families. The near war event with Cuba.

It changed economies and education. It changed everyone's life.

Yes, and it didn't seem so tense as the present, America was kept at bay by Russia but now it seems America can tell other nations what they should or should not do.. The stand off with Iran is an example.

A lot of us did. It is more hype now then reality. There was little thought of it in the Heartland. It was more political posturing and defense spending. They tried scaring us, but we were too busy living to worry about dying. I was born just after WWII and served in the military for a long time.

Yes...duck and cover!

Didn't even think about it as a kid. I even helped put food and supplies in the fallout shelter in 1962. It was fun, we was camping out!
