well...do you have any friends who likes to compose music?
go to any starter-band concerts?
Believe me, starter bands like CherryFix would probably listen to you....

Well Tool has 7 to 8 min songs... If you can pull off 10 minutes for every song you play... then that would impress me very much, and that would be an awesome song!!
Also, don't jump right into the lyrics like most bands do, you need to balance it out and let people listen to the music for one minute or two, then jump in with your own creative flow.
So if you have the voice, then get a group of friends that are into musical instruments, like drums, guitar, piano, etc and make sure no one is the leader of the group, all of you have to brainstorm in what to do, and it's a team effort... one man cannot do it alone, that would be called EGO.
I hope I helped... Email me, and I'll tell you more in what you need to do.

The best way to do so is just to study music and song writers to see what makes their music so awesome. A lot of today's songs sound cheesy and trite, and that's because everybody thinks they can write music. But they don't take the time to really study it, and go in-depth with it.
I'm a songwriter, and a music major in college. Here are some courses I'd recommend you take: Music Theory, Ear Training, Composition.

you should try going to your local bookstore. Go to the music section. They have books on song writing and writing lyrics. You should check out - The Craft of Lyric Writing by Sheila Davis.

Who would what? Be clear, be concise, speak up, and say what you want.
