Typically I would have a garage sale on Saturday and Sunday. Then I heard Thurs and Fridays are becoming better days to have garage sales. But I really don't know why. So, a few neighbors and I were thinking on having a garage sale, but we can't decide on Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. Those of you who do this stuff frequently, please advise!!!

The best time to have garage sales is the Saturday after the 1st or the 15th of the month. People have just been paid and they are searching for bargains. During the weekdays you get a lot of "dealers" that want to buy things for nothing.

I think any Saturday or Sunday (or both days) that is closest to the end of the school year but before school ends. Once school ends people go on vacation and they won't be around for your sale. I always had mine on Saturdays from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm It's not too early in the morning and you'll have plenty of time to set up for the sale before the people start showing up. I end it at 4:00 so that everything is cleaned up in the yard, I can take a shower and still have dinner ready by 6:00.

the normal here is Fridays 6-9 pm but mostly Saturday mornings 9- noonish / 2 oclock.
Not very often on sundays.

for selling stuff... price higher than you expect to get. If you want 50cents for an item put it at a dollar... make sure there are signs that say no reasonable offer refused, this way by putting something up for a dollar you might get your 50 cents out of it.

Going in with neibours and friends, one way to get everyone's money straight is to use color coded sticker tags. and write it all down ( have 2 people work cash..one writes the other deals with money).

If you can have an outlet or a power bar near by so that people can test electrical products. Make sure items that are being sold are clean (of course) and alot of the time mass quantities will sell better than singles. such as $2-5 fill a bag of clothing.. movies $2 each or 3 for $5.. that sort of idea.
In the end though it is all up to the customers :)

early Sat morning. People make careers out of buying and reselling yard sale stuff. If you say 6A about 4:30 to 5 you will start gettiing phone calls and people will want to know if they can get there early to shop. They want to be the first ones, to get all the good stuff. So they can resell it most likely.
Some people go Sat and Sun. We just ran ours on Sat. that way we had Sun to put all the stuff back in the house.

good luck with the sales.
