A flesh wound is a wound that doesn't go through any vital organs. For instance, the soft of your shoulder, or through your side where there aren't any intestines or vital organs. Of course, this ignored infection, but there ya go.

Wound doesn't penetrate muscle. It only grazes the skin or, at worst, affects the subcutaneous tissue that lies between the skin and muscle.
